The Swaziland Waypoint Register
| Home | The Register | Contribute | Links | About GPS | Given the increasingly popularity of the Global Positioning System (GPS) to mark the coordinates of a location, this site was established to collate GPS Waypoints for Swaziland. Obviously this will have to be a collaborative effort between me and all those who wish to contribute, but feel confident that we will be able to manage a fairly comprehensive register fairly soon. A Waypoint Register is essentially a list of coordinates for places - e.g. the waypoint/coordinates of the old Komati River Bridge (built in 1951) downstream some 1.5 km from the existing bridge on the road to Piggs Peak is S26°18.029' E31°07.403. Armed with these coordinates, one could easily find this bridge (as long as you had a GPS receiver of course!) One of the purposes of the Register will be include primarily places of interest (your favourite picnic site, a special feature, great view, garage, shop, government building, nature reserve, dam, your place of work or whatever) so that it can be available for others to find. However, any waypoint is acceptable as long as it comes with a description of sorts. GPS receivers start from around E1500 (for the Garmin GPS12 http://www.garmin.com/products/gps12) and up and all modern GPS's have a range of functions designed for recreational/outdoor use - including route planning (i.e. a list of waypoints that will guide you to a particular location), and even for estimating the distance between two points. If you have a GPS and are willing to share your waypoints with others then please send them to me. If you know of someone who has a GPS whom you think would like to contribute to the Register, then please put them in touch with me. Anyway, I hope that together we can create the first Waypoint Register for Swaziland and that it will be of use and interest for many people. | Home | The Register | Contribute | Links | About GPS | |
