PART XII: WASTE MANAGEMENT PLANS


Solid Waste Management Plans

31. (1) Each local authority shall prepare and submit to the Authority for approval, a long-term plan for the management of waste that conforms to the requirements of the Authority including any national waste strategy published by the Authority.

(2) Every solid waste plan shall include the following components -

  1. details of the quantity and composition of household, commercial, and industrial waste currently produced in the area;
  2. projections of the quantity and composition of solid waste generation over the next 10 years;
  3. a description of current methods of solid management including collection, transportation, recycling, intermediate processing and disposal;
  4. details of the capacities and remaining life of existing disposal facilities; and
  5. a timetable for upgrading current solid waste management facilities, and goals for the management of solid waste over the next 10 years.
