Resettlement

Within the project area both the Government and the administration are largely represented through the traditional structures. The Chiefs control all land in the area. The reallocation of land and people, resettled onto the irrigated areas, will need very close co-operation with the traditional structures.

Around 70 households will need to be resettled from the area to be flooded by the reservoir. Another 20 homesteads have to be resettled due to irrigation infrastructure, particularly feeder canal and main canal.

Ongoing discussions with traditional structures and farmers clearly indicate that equivalent land can be found within their present Chieftaincy and close to their present location.
