Project Resumé

Two aspects make this project different from many irrigation projects:

  • the highly developed private sector in the project area that is able to handle input supply, marketing and processing.
  • the presently successful smallholder irrigation already taking place, and acting as a visible demonstration of the income benefits that result from its adoption.

The presence of sugar estates also ensures that many people have some experience with irrigation equipment and that all of the farmers have seen it in operation.
