2.0 GOALS

2.1 Settlement Patterns, Land Use and Housing

  • Achieve adequate shelter for rapidly growing populations and deprived sectors of the population through an enabling to shelter development and improvement that is environmentally sound.
  • Provide for the land requirements of human settlements development through environmentally sound land use planning to ensure access to all households with particular attention to the needs of women.
  • Attain sustainable management of human settlements.

2.2 Environmental Health

The overall objective of environmental health activities is to reduce (and possibly eliminate) morbidity and mortality that result from improper environmental health related conditions, diseases and zoonic diseases transferable to man. Issues of environmental sanitation, communicable disease and occupational health frequently occur around development projects that affect human health and safety.

2.3 Solid Waste Management

To raise environmental standards and improve the overall conditions amongst all communities through the provision of environmentally sound solid waste management, sufficient to ensure that the environment, human health and the quality of life are protected through adopting and applying sustainable strategies.

2.4 Pollution

The main purpose of this mission is to protect natural resources and the environment against pollution through:

  • Increased public awareness on the importance of pollution control (Education of Urban, Peri-Urban and Rural Communities).
  • The strengthening of national pollution control policies using international standards.
  • Stepping up monitoring and pollution control measures.
